Ron Howard

Ron Howard to direct live action Pinocchio movie starring Robert Downey Jr.

Live action Disney films seem to be in frequent development and there is no stopping them yet, Warner Bros. Pictures‘ live-action PINOCCHIO movie has reportedly found a new director in Ron Howard.

According to The Tracking Board, Howard will take on the classic tale with Robert Downey Jr. set to play the part of Pinocchio’s creator, Geppetto.

The idea of a live action PINOCCHIO story is also appealing to Disney who are reportedly developing their own PINOCCHIO project, while Guillermo del Toro still hopes to bring his 3D stop-motion animated version to the screen.

The Warner Bros. adaptation has been in the pipeline for some time, which over time has been penned by Michael Mitnick (The Giver), Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) and Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Secret Service).

As of yet, there is very little known about the plot, but it is believed to be in keeping with the original storyline, with Downey’s Geppetto as the central protagonist, following the character as he goes looking for his lost son.

Ron Howard is a celebrated director, who won two Academy Awards for 2001’s A BEAUTIFUL MIND, and most recently brought IN THE HEART OF THE SEA to the big screen. He will also produce the PINOCCHIO MOVIE alongside Brian Grazer, Dan Jinks, Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey.

Howard’s next project will be working on his continuation of work of best-selling author Dan Brown‘s films. He has already helmed THE DA VINCI CODE and ANGELS & DEMONS adaptations, and will now complete the trilogy with INFERNO, which is set to hit cinemas October 16th, 2016.
